Warren Turner

I first joined SGI in 2011 after deciding not to go sixth form. As I had a passion for sports I felt SGI programme was a great opportunity to gain more experience and further my life skills. Throughout my time on the programme I was given the opportunity to achieve FA Level 1&2 Coaching Badges and also complete an NVQ in sports Level 2 & 3. Whilst doing so, I gained valuable work experience working with primary schools and also volunteering on camps. As a result of this I was able to form a great relationship with the primary school and I was asked to come back to coach their year 5/6 football team.

Since being a part of SGI programme, the knowledge and skills I have gained from them has benefited me whilst coaching out in America. I have done this for the past two summers 2013-2015 for 3 months at a time; this was for ‘Challenger Sports’. This was a great experience for me as I coached a variety of ages and personalities, also, teaching new coaching methods. Throughout my time in America, I stayed with many families who I built strong relationships with, they made me feel like it was a home-to-home experience. I would highly recommend this programme to anyone wishing to pursue a career in sports, as it has brought me exciting opportunities I would have never been able to achieve by myself.

Warren on SGI’s Study Programme

“I always knew I wanted to be involved in sports and when I came across SGI I felt like their programme would be too much of a good opportunity to pass down. The programme has helped me grow in confidence and become the coach I am today.”
